Thank you all!

Hello all. Sharon and I have come to the decision that it's time to wrap up DisapprovingRabbits.com. We don't take this decision lightly, but we're both freelancing now and can't find the time to devote to the site in even the simplest form. DR will remain up as a site.

Thanks to all of you for your support over the years. You're a great bunch, and we've loved getting your pictures and reading your comments.

Happy holidays!

Bill, Sharon, and Dougal.

Hi. Well, I suspect that we all guessed that that was the case.

Thank-you all for the years of happiness that Disapproving Rabbits has brought me and many others.

I can honestly say that Disapproving Rabbits has improved my life. So I Approve Of it and you!

Best wishes to you, Dougal, Bill, and Sharon, and of course, once again to Queen Cinnamon.

P.S.: Doog, make sure you keep those hoomins in line!

Sharon and Bill, I met you both at ConVergence. Is it possible someone else could take over? I wouldn't mind the job and I have my own disapproving rabbit here who has been seen on the site several times.

Sorry, can't deal with it.

Fleetie, how can you keep calm and carry on like that?!?

Well, I'm grateful for all the disapproval :-( and sure appreciate all the effort that went into keeping the site up.

So, starting things up on Monday?

Fleetie said...

Ijon, well, as you can imagine, I am sad at it, but Bill and Sharon, and Dougal, and Queen Cinnamon have all been putting a lot of work into keeping Disapproving Rabbits going.

And I guess if they do at least keep the site up, they might on the odd rare occasion feel like sharing one of Doog's Disapprovals here. Maybe.

We may be sad, but nothing lasts forever.

And we can still keep in touch away from D.R. .

I'm trying to look on the bright side here!

But let's all be honest: We all Approve Of all their efforts over the years, and I also am grateful for the fact that this site, and the people here, have taught me how wonderful rabbits are!

Auntie Jane (It is official!) said...

Well, we are all so grateful and have too much respect for all you have done and will do to say anything but Bon Voyage. Is this because I called Fleete a cutie? I knew I shouldn't I shouldn't have done that. Live long and proper and be blessed as you and yours have been a blessing to us and so many others. Jane

But but but...
DR has brought rabbit welfare into the consciousness of the world.
I guess all good things must come to an end.

All the best people I know have been met on DR. All the blogs I follow have started here. All the rabbits I love on the internet have sprung from this one site. Bunny parents and bunnies all over the globe owe DR a debt of gratitude. The impact of this site on rabbit advocacy cannot be measured. Well, maybe quantified in LOVE. Ok, and DISAPPROVAL.

WTF!?!?
I am actually crying a wee bit.

Wishing Bill and Sharon much much happiness and success in their endeavors!!! As a big fan of both Birds and Bunnies, I pray you both have many many years of joy, health, wealth, and disapproval, both together and with Dougal!!!

It's been grand! Keyboards and shirt-fronts on Monday mornings can finally take off the plastic covers since coffee blown out our noses will no longer be an issue.

Best to both.

(Somehow I will have to explain to Zoey that the DR platform for her Diva-ness is now gone.)

Another silent lurker here! Thank you so much for all of your hard work. I've enjoyed DR for years. I have my Queen Cinnamon t-shirt to prove it! We will miss you and the massive disapproval.

Love the idea of someone else being able to kind of keep things running!!!! I would be happy to assist although I have no experience.

Sadness!!! We do understand though. No blog can go on forever, especially when real life needs to take precedence. Best of luck in your future endeavors, and lots of carrots and hay for Dougal!

I am also mostly a lurker, but I have truly enjoyed DR, looking at it nearly everyday. I am so proud of my rabbit Stewart who also made DR two times! I feel like I know so many of the commenters as well. It has been a great ride. Good luck and all the best.

Anyway, thank you for all the disapproval! Definitely brought happiness to my days.

Bill and Sharon, thanks so much for all the happiness you've brought to so many over the years. I've met so many wonderful people here, and of course Cinnamon and the blog immortalized the phrase "Disapproving Rabbits" — it's absolutely everywhere in the rabbit world now.

Though we'll miss you, we're glad to hear that your freelance work is going so well. We wish you every success in the years ahead, and as much Disapproval as you can handle. And thank you to Cinnamon, Dougal, and everybun who graced these pages.

Now what will I use for my home page?
I saw a nice bun-themed movie yesterday on one of the religious channels. They titled it "Just Where I Belong" but imdb calls it "The Christmas Bunny." Florence Henderson is wonderful as The Rabbit Lady. It teaches a lot about bun care. A little heartwarming in the manner of Hallmark Channel, but worth picking up at the library or checking on Netflix.

Much thanks for all the disapproval over they years indeed. It's quite a surprising feeling of loss going on at the moment. (Never thought one could miss a site as if it were a sentient being.)

Since few people mentioned it already, I'd be more than happy to help in keeping DR going in whatever form is needed. If that's ever considered of course :-). Sigh.

Furbeast said...

Thank you for all the mornings I had starting the day with bunny disapproval and a laugh. It's not easy keeping up a blog day after day and performing BunChores properly, but you did both admirably well.

Thank you also for keeping the site up so we may continue receiving doses of disapproval so the human population does not experience collective DT's (disapproval terminus) and have to be hospitalized.

Best wishes to Bill, Sharon, Dougal, and Cinnamon the Bunny Who Started it All.

You all, I have started at the very beginning, and giving myself a Vintage Disapproval a day. They are great! Don't miss Queen Cinnamon telling Sharon, "This is not an intervention. I just don't like you." And, did you all know that basiltinis were once the rage?

Lalis said...

Thank you so much for sharing Miss Cinnamon and Dougal with us! We will miss you! Hopefully we will hear from the boss of the house (I mean Doog) in a different way sometime soon.

Best wishes to you all!

Fleetie said...

Jane: No, I didn't know about basiltinis.

I started on here around May 2008, I think.

THAT'S LIKE, FIVE-AND-A-HALF (5.5) YEARS AGO!

It doesn't feel like 5.5 years; it feels like 2 or 3 years.

I guess that goes to show that Time Flies When You're Being Disapproved Of.

My favourite Cinnamon "moment" was one of the occasions when she decided to take a break from Disapproving and she revealed to us A Moment Of Approval. The occasion was that of being fed some pancake while standing in her bunny maze, with her royal head and front paws sticking out of a hole in the ceiling! I've always loved that, and I always will!

Valsainte said...

YES!!! That one!

I have one of those Apple TV things, connected to the big 47" flat screen under my Queen Cinnamon oil portrait.

That means that I can watch YouTube videos on the big TV and hear the sound through the hi-fi, with speakers either side of the TV.

And believe me, I have watched that very video quite a few times on the big screen!

Kelly Moore said...

Excellent idea, Jane! Since I am a relative newbie I shall start at the very beginning (a very good place to start) and experience the evolution. Queen Cinnamon is a lovely mystery to me, soon to be revealed.

Ijon, you are spot on about the sweet sad grieving process...the loss of a haven, even if it's a cyber-haven with blogosphere compatriots, is very real.

Is Dougal rolling his soft bunny eyes at the hoomin weeping and gnashing of teeth, I wonder...? Total Disapproval, no doubt.

Auntie Jane (It is official!) said...

Oh, Fleetie, Valsainte, thank you for the heads up about Instagram and all the links. Fleetie, I know what I want for Christmas...someone who will finally get that Apple TV something or the other box actually hooked up. I have been missing J2B as well. I remember, shortly after I first learned about DR, someone left a comment begging Janet to come clean and let the group know which world class under cover comedian she was. She never fessed up, but she may be working on a movie...It all reminds me that I want all of you who have commented on this site over the years to know it is time to quit your day jobs and go into entertainment. Fleetie, while you too have incredible comedic gifts, I think the world is well served, perhaps best served, by your Monday morning call to arms. Could there ever be a site called "Fleetie's Disapproval of Mondays?" Anyway thank you all for your absolutely stunning wit over the years.

Fleetie said...

This is quite interesting, related to the Chinese Moon lander vehicle:

The Moon Rabbit in oriental mythology

I used to go out with a Chinese girl (well, several, but for the purposes of the present discourse, this one...) and she used to tell me these Chinese mythology stories. Chinese mythology seems to be more important in Chinese culture than "our" Greek mythology, that we get told of at school, is.

I loved hearing these Chinese stories; they seemed to be more romantic, or at least, to make me teary-eyed, in a way that Greek mythology just doesn't at all.

So yeah: The rabbit on the Moon.

Oh, and my nickname for her was "piao liang tu", which is Mandarin for "pretty rabbit"!

Kelly, You are most welcome. Brandi has many sites. She is allowed to co-habitate with an extensive array of domesticated furry creatures including a husband and sons, plus anything wild comes to her for help. She seems intent on educating the world about just about everything. In my case it is Native American history, but for others it is cooking, sewing, taking care of bunns, the Orthodox Church...One of the wellsprings of her life is her little chihuahua who comes with his own kitty nemesis. Her Christmas tree is featured in Speedy Rabbit's Chistmas Countdown. I apologize for going on like this, but I would not want you to go through life without also visiting Duchess the Chocolate Rabbit, House of Rabbits, and Big Ears Tiny Tales with all their priceless archives. Now...off to check your suggestions. Thanks and the best of the holidays to you and yours, Jane

Auntie Jane, thanks for your site mentions, and Kelly too. I’m kind of blue about losing our little community here at DR, so I’ve been tracking down the sites of various contributors. If there are any other places I should check out, I’d appreciate a tip. Thanks!

Fleetie said...

Is there any reason why we must scatter to the four corners of the Earth?

Couldn't people continue to come here and post their pics in this thread? I don't want to lose touch with the nice bunny people I've been happy to meet here!

Or if one or two new sites or fora emerge as favourites of those who used to post here, then please post them here so we bunny fans will know where to go!

Ijon Tichy the Nth said...

Well, it would be hard to keep it up on this post alone. But, we might consider creative means of keeping the 'tribe' going. Alternative blogger site (started from scratch) with the understanding that we'll hand it off from one to another if maintainer has to drop off, public FB page? Yeah, my heart's still busted. Like I mentioned, I'm game to something. I never imagined Queen Cinnamon would have such an effect on me. I still remember how hard it was to come terms with no more Sunday Cinnamon. Never mind what came later :-(

Fleetie said...

Yes, I agree. Queen Cinnamon did leave awfully big pawprints to fill. But at least Dougal came along and filled them well for us!

But no, we should consider another Blogger site, or as you say, a Facebook group. I dunno which, though.

Kelly Moore said...

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was feeling a sense of loss! I'm game for anything - I would even reactivate my Facebook account if necessary, which I shut down when I realized that most of my acquaintances didn't appear to need FB as much as they needed therapy...

Could a blog be set up for multiple contributors? Or rotated on a monthly basis? I am not so www.savvy as most.

Ijon Tichy the Nth said...

It's okay IT9th. Feelings are complicated. Kelly, you have just demonstrated that you don't have to have a disapproving rabbit to ruin a keyboard. I, too, am not one of the savvy ones, but given the denizens of this site, there is clearly a lot of talent to draw upon. For those adequately bunned to one not yet ruled by a rabbit (ginger cat has dibs, border collie and Paint next, husband has given up), I wonder...since animals can talk at midnight on Christmas Eve, what might your bunnies say? I'll bet they are all glad to have their respective hoomins.

Kelly -- the same thing they say the rest of the time of course.

I am weeping with laughter, Valsainte! Well played, my friend, well played.

Happy M*nd*y!

Ha! Yes, it is M*nd*y, but it's not so bad, for me at least, cos I'm off work for xmas/new year now.

On the other hand, the weather here has been awful: Rainy and high winds all day. I decided to stay in today. Normally if I'm off work, I like to get out and do at least something. But not today!

I hope tomorrow will be better!

I hope everybun/everyhoomin is enjoying the holidays so far, if you all are on holidays yet!

Please give your bunnies some nose-rubs and snuggles from me!

Merry Christmas Every Bun And A Binky New Year!

I've set up a blogger site at disapprovingbun.com If we can have a bun sent to disapprovingbun@gmail.com, I'll have it posted on x-mas day.

Please keep in mind it's a work in progress for me, I expect snags and glitches (if we don't get these, I'll take that too ;-) ).
Let's give it a try and see what happens :-)

No! I'll have to change my browser's homepage now :(

Thanks for all of the disapproving buns, and for featuring my very own cranky rabbit, Henry.

Hi guys,

I don't think I've commented before but I've been reading your blog and reposting my favourites on Facebook for years. I found your book at my university bookstore and was immediately hooked. There was a picture in there of a rabbit sitting in a pot on the stove. My roommate at the time called my rabbits Pie and Stew so I made a copy of the photo and mailed it to him over the summer. It made us both laugh.

Thanks for all the wonderful photos and inspired captions.

All the best to you and Dougal in your future endeavors,

Alice

Thank-You from the bottom of our hearts for years of big goofy grins met by deep disapproval from our rabbits... Hope was as happy as she could ever be to have been featured. Bless you in your travels down the roads ahead...

Wow, huge bummer, but I understand. Like it was said in Doctor Who, everything has it's time. :( Will really miss this site, it was awesome. Thanks for all the laughs and smiles. I regret never posting a pic of my own bunny (he's gone now), but life goes on. Wishing you all the best in work, life, and future endeavors!
