So, there you go.
"Maddox is has always loved his baths, and I heard from many Florida natives that their childhood pet rabbits jumped into their cholrine pool voluntarily to swim with them. I had always expected a rabbit to like dislike water as much as a cat.
I took him into the saline pool, and he wasn't a bit panicked. He completely blissed out. He has a sweet gentle doggie paddle stroke and know how to get out of the pool on his own."

Ummmm.......
That pic makes me sad
Does Maddox go into the water on his own initiative? He looks unhappy--even more so than the usual bun disgruntlement.
i suspect he likes it... reminds me of the aussie bun on cuteoverload (i think it was) that lays on his back in water staying cool... some buns are smart that way
We are assured that Maddox enjoys swimming, goes in of his own volition, and that it is a saline pool as well.
Astounding, we are amazed and, of course, disturbed. No swimming for us today.
Bun bun bun bun bun bun bun bun bun ...
i never would have thought a rabbit would voluntarily get wet! i almost peed myself laughing when i saw this! little dude needs a little inner tube
Clearly he is disapproving of the lack of a margarita for apres-swim.
Perhaps Maddox disapproves of being broadcast over the blogesphere au naturel? As for saline pool, it would be a natural healing agent just like one of us going to the ocean. Heals cuts and scrapes and the like.
aww maddox... RIP little buddy. i hope you found a big swimming pool in rainbow bridge!
"Hunt for Red Octobun"--LOL!
...Looks like he is taking a rest between laps...
Never saw a photo of a bun (who likes to be) in the water before--crave more images of waterbuns!
Maddox looks like something out of a Monty Python skit.
I also think I can hear the theme from Jaws playing in the background.
Too funny
I thought bunnies could get water in their lungs and even die hours later? Is that just a rumor? Seeing bunnies in water scares me for that reason! and there is an RIP maddox comment? did the little cutie die at some point?
tamara: Technically, it can happen with just about anything/anyone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_drowning

Whoops, also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_drowning#Secondary_drowning
Maddox was attack by a wolf/husky dog...killed instantaneously. This was recent...not related to the pool, water, etc.
Doesn't anyone remember the wild rabbit that swam out to then-President Jimmy Carter while he was in a boat on a pond??? It's where the "killer rabbit" story started.
Here's the link:

That must have been one cool buns. Our Roarie is a grade A priss and can't be bothered for a swim or bath for fear of messing up her hair.
Sorry Maddox was attacked, Maddox's mom. :( That's a horrible story.
But what a great bun!! My little guy is a climber... who knows what else bunnies like to do that is out of the "norm".
I never thought for one moment anything bad when I saw this pic. He's absolutely adorable & clearly in a state of cool, weightless bliss.
I was horrified to read later that he is now dead at the hands of a dog. jeez; talk about buzz kill! I'm sorry to know that this little guy is now gone.
Hes so cute, i wish my bun loved water i say the word bath and she runs! I am so sorry to hear he is no longer here. My heart goes out to you.
Anyone who thought negatively about this is just silly. A good bun parent would never put their bun in danger. Some buns like the water. Just like some cats do!
Maddox was a wonderful bun. And his mom rocks too!
He was my bunny's best friend.. RIP little friend.
hey maddox's mom - i'm sorry he was attacked and died recently :( i had no doubt he enjoyed the water from the pic (see my earlier post). and that you would not put him in harms way. i just recently lost a bun, archi, at the paws of my puppy and it was a horrible loss. my heart goes out to you and thank you for sharing a wonderful memory of maddox blissed out and cooling off! they bring us such joy and we do our best to give them a great life for the time we have them
I think this photo is a wonderful celebration of Maddox's life and of your relationship with him. You were very lucky to have such an interesting bun.
Oh, so sorry to hear about the demise of Maddox, we were just getting to know him......sad, sad, sad.
Thank you so much for sharing Maddox with us. The picture was adorable - I have seen several rabbits who like to swim now. I agree with the person who commented that this picture is a celebration of Maddox's life. I'm so sorry for you loss.

Gosh Dang it ... MAddox, like Archi Ann, would have been totally wonderful fellow travelers on the 7-BUNNY-7 .... RIP Maddox.

Hi Maddox's mom! I'm heartbroken to hear he died. I would love to hear more Maddox stories. I'm sorry if i sounded like i was accusing you...I really was curious and, as a new bunny mom, there's just so little i know for sure, and so many info tidbits out there that could be true or not and it's hard to know. (for example, scary comments on videos of swimming buns on youtube). It's clear he was a beloved and well cared for swimming bun (and of course quite handsome and very special). Even after all my reading and research, I still feel like it's so much easier to know how to take care of cats and dogs, understand when something goes wrong, and fix it--they seem downright obvious in comparison.

Maddox is the ONLY bunny I had that liked water.
He was bossy and demanding..a real 'diva' in character...he'd let you KNOW his likes-dislikes.
I had never experienced one before him that did not react like a clawing cat near water. Maddox is a double-mane lionhead, a chore to bath because his fur's density, but at times also necessary. He sat calmy in the water, enjoyed a good lathering of moisturing shampoo, and also tolerated a soft blow dry. Between the stories I heard about pool swimming rabbits, seeing Maddox's consistent calm in water, and having access to a saline pool...I figured I could give it a cautious try.
What you might not be able to tell from the photo is Maddox's fur was so dense at this time, his 3 lb body floated on the fluff. His torso never got wet to the skin....built in life-jacket!
You can check out Maddox's diva lifestyle on his MySpace Page...he certainly lived better than I did!

Sorry to hear you lost Maddox this week. :-(
I tried looking at his Myspace page, but the page is set to "private".
This is hands down the BEST picture i have ever seen! I showed it to Giacomo and of course he disapproved.....
Aw jeez! So SORRY to hear that Maddox was attacked like that! *hugs and nose rubs*.
We too, hope he has a sweet, cool place to swimm in at the Bridge!
GREAT photo, too! Awsome to see a bunnah doin' his own thing!
There are lots of swimming buns on YouTube. Here's one like Maddox that likes to float...

Brilliant pic.....so sorry for what happened to Maddox :0(
Binky free little one xx
Ya know, if he'd started sooner, he mighta been a big-time surfer-bun!
Oh, I'm so sorry about Maddox. They leave such big holes in our lives...
I've seen some of the swimming buns of youtube and I've thought of seeing if any of mine might like swimming, but they are all angoras- what a big felt-fest that would be!
So sorry to learn that he's no longer with us... but based on this picture, he was an extrordinary bun whose life is worth celebrating!
sorry to hear about Maddox's death~
I am so sorry to hear about Maddox, what a terrible loss. I think the picture is adorable. I have never seen a picture of a bunny swimming before, how cool! I look at the picture and can almost hear the steel drums playing and the sound of margaritas in a blender.
Wow, that pic just cracked me up. I'd never seen a bun voluntarily go swimming, but I do know that my rabbits like water, so I didn't doubt it when I saw the pic.
Both of mine try to hop in the bathtub when I'm showering or taking a bath, lol, makes for an interesting experience trying to keep them and my german sherperd out!
rip maddox ..
